Herpes Stages

When herpes virus enters the body, the symptoms usually developed into herpes stages before the patient may really recognized an outbreak.

There are various ways in which the herpes virus enters and affect the body and once it is inside the body, the person infected may or may not know that he or she infected the herpes virus.

The herpes virus normally goes through the following stages:

  • Stage 1

One week after the person gets infected with the herpes virus, the affected body part starts to get itchy and small blisters start to appear. The blisters are filled with fluid which may also accompany body ache and muscle pain.

The blisters which are found in the groin area can be very painful as they may find difficulty in urinating.

  • Stage 2

Two or three weeks later, the sores will crust and will start to fall off. This stage the healing of the sores will start to appear.

The infected person may think that he or she is totally healed as the sores got healed and that other symptoms will likely had likely disappeared. But during this stage, even there are no symptoms, the herpes virus is actually spreading in the body.

  • Stage 3

This stage is more known as the viral shedding stage. It is considered the most dangerous as the herpes virus had already spread and can be transmitted to anyone through body fluids and other direct contact.

During shedding stage, though the person may not really show signs and symptoms of herpes, the virus is still replicating inside the body. Without proper protection, the infected person can spread the virus to another person.

  • Stage 4

At this time, herpes can can be milder in form. The patient can expect some minor outbreaks which can be triggered by different factors.

Accordingly, there is really no cure at herpes. However, there are various anti-viral medications which are used to treat the symptoms and likewise to manage the disease more effectively.

Recurrent Genital Herpes Outbreak

After the initial herpes outbreak, the risks of recurring is expected. Recurring herpes outbreaks may give additional symptoms during the attack. The number of times the herpes attack will recurr and the severity of the attack vary accordingly from each patient.

There are some cases in which the patient may exhibit symptoms every 2-3 weeks, while there are some who may expereince it for 4 – 5 times per year or more.

Antiviral medications can be taken every day to suppress outbreaks but there are also some cases in which episodic treatment are used.

There are various factors which triggers the outbreak of the virus. The factors which may trigger an herpes outbreak may include:

  • Sexual intercourse
  • Stress
  • Menstrual cycle
  • Unhealthy diet
  • Injury
  • Trauma
  • Some medications
  • Other medical conditions

The patient may try to manage the triggering factors but most of them are generally unavoidable that is why protection is always important to avoid any severe outbreak.
